Justin Damster

Chief Vision Officer

Justin is a pioneering project developer and entrepreneur, Justin brings over two decades of experience in renewable infrastructure across South Africa and Europe. He has led initiatives from Africa’s largest concentrated photovoltaic power plant to a Dutch-based circular economy facility converting waste tyres into reusable rubber products. Justin is the strategic mind behind Current’s tokenised energy framework enabling industrial users to procure certified green energy with full traceability. His track record in sustainable development positions Current as a leader in the energy transition.

Ferdinand Heymann

Chief Trading Officer

Ferdinand is a senior energy executive with more than 40 years at Eskom, Ferdinand holds a B.Eng (Electrical) and an MBA from Stellenbosch University. He has led strategic projects in energy trading, network planning, and customer integration most recently contributing to the formation of Eskom’s Distribution Energy Trader. Known for his technical depth and mentoring acumen, Ferdinand ensures that Current’s trading activities meet both regulatory requirements and customer needs.

David du Preez

Chief Financial Officer

David is a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) with extensive experience in high-growth environments, David oversees financial strategy, governance, and investor alignment at Current. His ability to harmonise financial planning with operational execution ensures that all components of the business scale with discipline and integrity.

Juan du Plessis

Chief Commercial Officer

Juan holds an Bachelors of Engineer (BEng) from Stellenbosch University and an MBA from the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business. He is a seasoned infrastructure investment leader with over 16 years of experience in energy transition and financial markets. At Current, Juan drives commercial strategy, leads deal execution, and strengthens investor and client relationships, with a track record in large-scale renewables transactions across Africa and capital raising for infrastructure funds.

Wiaan van Jaarsveld

Chief Architect

Wiaan is a seasoned software architect with more than 20 years of experience developing secure, scalable platforms for leading South African firms including Naspers, Vodacom, and Sanlam. As the architect of the PPEX tokenisation and metering platform, he ensures Current Energy operates with maximum reliability, transparency, and digital integrity.

Carmen Leibrandt

Head of Legal

Carmen holds an LLB from the University of the Free State and brings over a decade of experience in compliance across industry and government. She has served as Compliance Officer on multiple renewable energy IPP projects, including rounds one and three of the REIPPPP, and as Assistant Forensic Officer at one of South Africa’s leading municipalities. At Current, Carmen leverages her legal and compliance expertise to support municipal power purchase negotiations and ensure robust governance across projects.

Marcel Steinberg

Marcel is a veteran renewable energy entrepreneur with a track record of creating ventures that deliver both environmental and commercial impact. His strategic insights and sustainability expertise make him a trusted advisor in aligning Current’s growth trajectory with long-term market and policy trends.

Quintus van der Berg

Strategic Advisor

Quintus is a senior executive with extensive experience in business leadership, cost engineering, and new business development across Africa. He has delivered measurable returns on projects in multiple markets and brings expertise in retail management, process design, data analysis, change and risk management, and marketing. Known for strong negotiation skills and relationship building, Quintus provides strategic guidance to Current with an entrepreneurial yet disciplined approach.
